Computer Headphones Microphone

help concerning using headphones as a microphone on a computer!?
i have a pair of headphones that came with my ipod touch that has a microphone built in in the back of the volume remote.
i want to use them with my computer to talk to my friend, but when i plug them in the jack, i can HEAR myself in the speakers, but they cant hear me!
and when i do a sound check and whatnot, when i speak it doesnt register with the sound wave chart, you know? but i still hear myself.
help? how can i get this to work?
Sound jacks on a computer are different based on the device. There are separate input (microphone) and output (speakers).
Reason you can hear yourself is the mic and the earphones are connected.
The reason your friends, and the system doesn’t register your voice is because you are plugged into the headphone jack, not the mic jack.
There is no way for that to work because the Computer Sound Card isn’t designed the same as an iPod system is.
